I recently (again) was treated by Dr. Zapata and as always found her very friendly and professional. She always takes every precaution to make sure that her fillings (or anything else she does) fit properly and don't cause any discomfort. Even though going to the dentist is obviously not a very entertaining experience I never have to worry about experiencing pain.

Why Opt for Professional Teeth Whitening?

Each of us is unique, with factors like age, lifestyle, diet, medications, and more influencing the condition of our teeth and gums. While a whitening product may work wonders for one person, it may not deliver the same results for you. Moreover, some store-bought options can even harm your gums.

Here’s why choosing professional teeth whitening offers distinct advantages over off-the-shelf products:

    • Tailored to Your Needs: Our approach begins with understanding your specific concerns about your smile, your desired outcomes, and your oral health. Following a thorough examination, we recommend the best whitening procedure based on your preferences and dental condition.
    • Expert Care: Our dentists undergo specialized training in teeth whitening products and techniques, ensuring precise application and adherence to safety protocols throughout the procedure.
    • Dramatic Results: We utilize prescription-strength bleaching solutions containing the most potent whitening agents available, guaranteeing remarkable improvements in your smile’s brightness.
    • Immediate Transformation: Professional teeth whitening delivers exceptional results in as little as one hour, providing immediate gratification for a brighter, more confident smile.
    • Uniform Whitening: Unlike over-the-counter products prone to uneven results, our whitening process ensures consistent whitening across all contours and angles of your teeth, leaving no area untouched.
    • Enhanced Comfort: Our whitening procedure incorporates advanced techniques, including laser technology, to minimize sensitivity and gum irritation, ensuring a comfortable experience throughout.

Ultimately, only a qualified dentist can assess the safest and most effective whitening procedure tailored to your needs. Don’t hesitate to reach out to us to begin your journey towards a brighter, more radiant smile!

Understanding Why Teeth Become Stained or Discoloured

The outer layer of our teeth, known as enamel, acts as a protective shield composed primarily of minerals, making it incredibly resilient—the hardest substance in our bodies. However, enamel is porous, containing minuscule holes that readily absorb staining substances, including:

    1. Dark-coloured Beverages: Common culprits like tea, coffee, wine, colas, and fruit juices seep into enamel pores, leaving behind stains.
    2. Dark-coloured Sauces: Tomato and soy sauce, rich in pigments, can contribute to tooth discoloration over time.
    3. Sugary Foods and Beverages: High-sugar content in various foods and drinks not only fosters bacterial growth but also leads to enamel staining.
    4. Brightly Coloured Fruits: Berries, cherries, and pomegranates, though nutritious, contain pigments that can adhere to enamel, causing stains.
    5. Tobacco Products: Smoking or using tobacco products introduces tar and nicotine, notorious for discolouring teeth.
    6. Poor Nutrition and Oral Hygiene: Inadequate dietary habits and neglecting proper oral care can accelerate teeth discoloration.

In addition to surface stains, deep discoloration occurs within the tooth’s inner layer, beneath the enamel. This layer naturally exhibits yellow or gray hues. Over time, as enamel wears down, the underlying colour becomes more visible, resulting in a dull or dingy appearance. Factors such as aging, medications, illness, and dental injuries can exacerbate this inner discoloration.

By understanding the causes of tooth discoloration, you can make informed choices to mitigate staining and preserve the natural brightness of your smile.

    Top Teeth Whitening Options

Teeth whitening is an effective way of lightening the natural colour of your teeth without relying on more invasive procedures like veneers. Having your teeth whitening at our office or carefully following the instructions in your take-home kit will show results without any lasting sensitivity.

    Professional whitening treatment

For most patients, the most effective way to whiten teeth is to invest in a professional in-office treatment. During your in-office teeth whitening, a bleaching solution is applied to the teeth using specially designed trays. Once the trays are in place, a laser is used to gently heat the solution, working to activate oxygen molecules that can penetrate enamel to remove stains. Laser teeth whitening offers immediate results. It may also help reduce risks of sensitivity and gum irritation.

    Take-home teeth whitening Kit

For patients who prefer to whiten their teeth in the comfort and privacy of their own homes, we offer customized take-home whitening kits. These kits come with customized application trays that hug the natural contours and grooves of your teeth, enabling consistent and complete whitening of the enamel. Unlike store-bought kits, our teeth whitening trays are moulded from models of your actual teeth, a benefit that also reduces risks of tooth sensitivity and gum irritation. Take-home kits gradually lighten enamel over the course of three to four weeks.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Plaque forms when bacteria from food and drink particles aren’t cleaned properly from your teeth. Over time, plaque hardens to form tartar, which can only be removed by a dentist or hygienist. This yellow coating can form on or around your teeth if you don’t brush often enough or thoroughly enough.

While teeth whitening is considered safe, you may experience some teeth sensitivity. You may experience this on your first or second treatment, and it may diminish with time. It is important to always carefully follow the instructions that come with your take-home kit or with over-the-counter products.

If you have any crowns, veneers or fillings on the front teeth, they will not change colour with whitening. Whitening the surrounding teeth may make the crowns and fillings stand out.

Teeth whitening is not often covered by insurance. Call your insurance provider to find out if they cover you. We can provide an estimate for you to submit to your provider.

After a teeth whitening treatment try to avoid any foods or drinks that would leave a stain on a white shirt. Any dark staining drinks like Tea, Coffee, Red Wine, coloured soft or alcoholic drinks and fruit juice and any foods like tomato sauce, curry, soy sauce, red meat, chocolate and all fruit except bananas.

Depending on the type of teeth whitening and how well you maintain your teeth, whitening can last for anywhere from 6 months to up to 3 years.
